How a shutdown at Chooz A was overcome ⁉️
The decommissioning of France’s first pressurized water reactor, Chooz A, marks a historic turning point in the nuclear industry. However, as the newspaper L'Ardennais recently reported, the teams faced a massive challenge: recurring contamination incidents temporarily halted the dismantling of the reactor pressure vessel.
This is exactly where our expertise came into play. 🤝
Working in close collaboration with the Westinghouse Electric Company on-site, we developed a tailor-made solution to continue the decommissioning process safely and efficiently. By lining the reactor cavity with specialized, flexible membranes, we were able to:
▪️ Effectively seal contamination pathways
▪️ Maximize safety
▪️ Guarantee process stability
This project proves that a strong dialogue between engineers and the teams working on the front line every day elevates decommissioning to the next level of safety.
A huge thank you to the teams for their trust and for the execution.
