This simple game provides clear evidence that even delicate, high-precision operations are easily achievable within the enclosure. What starts as a game proves in practice that our solution delivers both high precision and full containment.

Successful delivery of two pneumatic tents, changing rooms, and showers to the SDIS Guadeloupe for the special unit USAR 971 – Unité de Sauvetage, d’Appui et de Recherche (Rescue, Support, and Search Unit).

On-site, the teams identified several critical advantages that make a decisive difference during real-world operations:

We’re kicking off the new year… and celebrating 10 years of our first pneumatic BR airlock! ��

The civilian nuclear industry is often seen as a space resistant to innovation. Yet experience shows: when there’s an opportunity to do things better — whether improving safety or operational performance — the teams on the ground are always open to it.

The pneumatic airlock for the reactor building (BR), developed for and with EDF, is a perfect example. Ten years ago, it was designed, tested, and first deployed at the Saint-Laurent site in close collaboration with the then-MEEI service under Lara Baudin’s leadership. This year, it celebrates a decade of successful operation in the controlled zone.

Why has it lasted so long? Because it fully meets real-world requirements:

Rapid installation and quick deployment
Low calorific value and reduced fire load
Flexible structure that helps reduce seismic risks

A decade later, what was once an innovation has become a widely adopted solution: it is now part of the national contract and deployed across all sites.

Congratulations to everyone involved, especially to DR Technologie, and a special shout-out to Laurent Chapat and Emilien Jobard, who, together with the support of our partners NUVIA and EDF, achieved this incredible victory. Amazing work!

We are overjoyed to have been a part of this success. Our contribution was the optimization of the design.

⁉ What exactly is this SAS bridge de cuve that was presented for the EDF Award �� for Prevention, Health, and Safety?

▶ This SAS – airlock was installed a few months ago at the bottom of the reactor pool on the reactor pressure vessel and is designed to ensure the safe execution of grinding and cutting operations. Workers equipped with special gear can then proceed, accompanied by customized and qualified equipment, into this ultracontaminated and dosed environment.

Let’s discuss the advantages of this tool:

In addition to its lightweight and portability, this SAS – airlock offers several other benefits:

Reduces the risk associated with handling operations.
Simplifies and increases the safety of the work process by eliminating the need to set up a rigid scaffold with a vinyl skin.
Saves time! Erecting a vinyl scaffold can take hours, while an inflatable SAS can be set up in just a few minutes.
Reduces the exposure time for personnel. During the installation of a rigid scaffold, workers are exposed to high levels of dosimetry for longer periods.

How does the installation work? Due to the high radiation levels at the bottom of the reactor pool, exposure time must be minimized. Thus, the reactor pressure vessel airlock is designed to be installed in two stages :

Inflating the structure on the 20-meter elevated platform.
Then lowering it using a bridge crane, supported by a sling, to the bottom of the reactor pool.

A special construction:

To comply with regulations, the SAS consists of a double skin, with the pneumatic structure in the middle. The goal is to be able to lift only the scaffold without contaminating the surrounding work environment.

This inflatable FME lock is a successful innovation!

A tailor-made technical solution developed in collaboration with EDF, NUVIA and DR TECHNOLOGIE. This solution is fully adapted to the radiological constraints of the cuve's environment.

Previously, workers erected a scaffolding structure and covered that structure with vinyl and tape. Since the fuel pool is in a risk zone, we have proposed a solution to reduce the FME risk, remove the vinyl and tapes and save a lot of time!

We are proud to contribute to the safety of employees and to improve their performance .

An example ? One of our partners wanted to build a confined area to perform complex repairs on contaminated xxl equipment.

We transformed an industrial room into a controlled area in less than a week, notably with the installation of a 25mX10mX6m tunnel. This sealed tunnel, connected to filtered differential pressure devices, made it possible to repair the equipment in the best possible working conditions.

In july we'll build and install a Hybrid corridor in order to connect the "cleaning facility" to the Tokamak and thus guarantee the conservation of the level of cleanliness of the material which is prepared for B17 (ISO 8) and will be installed inside the Tokamak. As part of the prevention of FME risk in an electrical environment, the FME Manager of the Flamanville EPR and his team asked us to manufacture their innovative device.

Because falling objects inside the electrical drawers can lead to shot circuits when the drawers are plugged in, we have designed faceplates specifically responding to their demand. This provision therefore makes it possible to prevent FME risk, but also to guarantee the safety of consignment officers during deconsignment operations.
